Inclusion and Equity

C-Street Cooperative Preschool believes in the power of a diverse learning community.  We are  committed to working diligently to strengthen and maintain an environment of inclusion and equity. We have a specific focus on ensuring the well-being of people of color, and are also devoted to ensuring that all members of our community, across gender identity, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and disability status feel valued and respected.

Our goals include:

  • Condemn and dismantle racism and all other forms of discrimination

  • Prioritize support and safety for children of color 

  • Increase awareness of our own biases 

We are committed to the following action items:

  • Work towards diversity that is reflective of the Charlottesville area demographic.

  • Maintain an Inclusion/Equity committee of at least two people. 

  • Coordinate ongoing teacher education on culturally responsive teaching. 

  • Facilitate parent racial awareness educational opportunities such as a media club 

  • Review enrollment and marketing process on an annual basis to lookout for exclusion.

  • Maintain demographic records to present to the board annually for review.

  • Explore with the board all barriers to stated goals with an eye on solutions.

  • Challenge each other to consider a perspective of inclusion and equity.
